Nigeria can never be failed state – Lawan

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has declared that Nigeria can never turn to a failed state despite the utterances and predictions of ‘’dooms-day-prophets.”

Lawan, who  made the declaration yesterday while flagging off the 2021 empowerment project to 2,000 beneficiaries of Katsina Central organised by Sen Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya, said what the present administration needed most is the support and prayers of every Nigerian.

He said “Those who were saying that in the present circumstance, caused by insecurity, that Nigeria could turn a failed state, approaching a failed state or may likely end up a failed state, are missing the point because Nigeria can never be a failed state.”

“Again, they forgot that when a state of emergency was declared in some parts of the Northeast during the tenure of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria did not turn a failed state talk less of the present.

”It is necessary that all stakeholders should join hands with the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari to overcome the present challenges facing the nation,” he said.

On his part, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State called for collective efforts irrespective of party affiliation to build the state and country to a greater height.

Earlier, Senator Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya noted that ever since he got elected, he has not slept a day without thinking about proffering solutions to the numerous problems and challenges of his constituents, Katsina Central Senatorial District.

He said ”all the social intervention programmes which the federal government has initiated for the citizens of Nigeria, Katsina Central has been a beneficiary. Even though the spaces are limited, I have carried the people along,” he said.

He said during the increased spate of banditry in the state, he co-sponsored two different motions which drew the Federal Government’s attention to the insecurity in the state, noting that the situation is very much better at the moment.”

He called on the citizens to be security conscious and to assist the government with relevant information to nip any situation in the bud.

Items presented include vehicles, motorcycles, sewing machines, water-pumps, grinding machines and welding machines.
