Yobe To Upgrade Damagum Blind Workshop


DAMATURU – As part of the skills acquisition and poverty alleviation programme for the People Living with Disability (PLWD) especially the blind, the Yobe State government said that it has concluded arrangements for the complete renovation and upgrade of the Damagum Blind Workshop in Fune Local Government Area of the State.

Goni Bukar Lawan, Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Youths Sports Social and Community Development revealed at a press conference in Damaturu on Thursday.

He said: “There is budgetary provision for the project and we will soon embark on it.”

He also said that the Ministry is a service oriented organization charged with the activities that are focused on the improvement of well being of Youth in the state through, youth empowerment and poverty alleviation programme as well as social activities “other activities include rehabilitation of physically challenged and vulnerable persons through socio-economic assistance and reorientation using comprehensive case management services, hospitals, remand homes and blind workshops”.

Lawan added that the Ministry is also saddled with resettlement of destitute, unaccompanied children and abandoned children.

“The Ministry in its fulfilment of the cardinal policy thrust of this administration envisaged a youth development policy that will guarantee the future of every youth in the state which intends to achieve through various youth development programmes, like provision of formal education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and resettlement capital to establish their own,” he said.
