Akwa Ibom Police Command Warns Against Jungle Justice

UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has threatened to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of jungle justice.

The Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew, said that the new trend where suspected criminals were punished by a mob would no longer be tolerated.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Thursday, the commissioner said mob action does not guarantee fairness as it may lead to the death of innocent members of the public.

While urging members of the public to desist from taking the laws into their hands, he maintained that the action was against the provisions of the constitution and the nation’s criminal justice system. His words “The Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State, CP Amiengheme Andrew, is piqued by the recent increase in the resort to jungle justice by some irate mob in the state.”
