Ganduje Releases 136 inmates In Correctional Centres In Kano

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduja has had mercy on 136 inmates from the Kano Correctional Center amid the Eid-Kabir celebration.

Each released inmate received N5,000 as transport fare to their respective destination from the governor. According to reports, the mercy shown on the inmates is part of the plan to reduce congestion at the correctional centers in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Kano by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Abba Anwar.

Anwar stated that the governor took the decision when he visited Goron-dutse Medium Correctional Centre on Tuesday, July 20.

“You are Nigerians who deserved to be taken care of and that is why we are here today to celebrate with you this great Eid-el-Kabir, by pardoning some of you,” he said.

“We are also here to see how you are feeling and to share the joyous moment with you.

“We want those of you who repented to promise us not to go back to your previous nefarious acts,” the governor was quoted as saying.

According to Anwar, some of the detainees were pardoned owing to ill health or for staying longer than necessary.

Those who were incarcerated due to their inability to pay the fines imposed on them were also granted pardon.

“The pardoning exercise is in compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to decongest correctional centres across the country,” he quoted Ganduje as saying.
